Ponteland Pele Tower

The Ponteland Pele Tower Working Group was formed in 1997 with the aim of securing the historic future of the Ponteland Vicar's Pele Tower. The group has the support of Ponteland Parish Council, Castle Morpeth Borough Council and Northumberland County Council.
Works costing £50,000 were completed in 2002 and the Group hopes that the future of the tower is secure for the foeseeable future.

In his 1996 paper "The Ponteland Vicar's Pele Tower  - community Asset or Eyesore? the Working Group Chaiman, Michael Taylor highlighted that The Vicar's Pele Tower is a prominent feature within the heart of the Ponteland village. It has remained derelict and decaying for the last 50 years. However earlier in describing Ponteland, Edwin Grieve, the much acclaimed Northern Writer and Historian said "Few places in Northumberland can have so many historic buildings in such a small area. The old school, the tollhouse, the rectory, the Vicar's Pele (sadly allowed
remaining a ruin), the Blackbird pub and the church are all monuments to Ponteland's
history".
The Working Group hopes that whilst remaining a ruin it is now more of a Communitee asset.
